Darien Police say they responded to the area of Camp Avenue and Hollow Tree Ridge Road on a report of an accident on Sunday, Oct. 20 around 11:15 p.m.
Officers had been notified of the crash’s location via the vehicle’s “On-Star” air-bag alert system, police say.
Police arrived and discovered that a Ford Focus had sustained significant front end damage.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been traveling east on Camp Avenue, failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection on Hollow Tree Ridge Road and crashed into a pile of stones off the roadway, police say.
All three occupants of the vehicle were unharmed, according to police.
When asked to step out of the vehicle to talk to officers, police say the driver, identified as Raymond Boyd, 33, of Stamford, was unsteady on his feet and had trouble maintaining his balance.
Police also allegedly detected the odor of alcohol on Boyd.
When officers asked Boyd what happened, they were allegedly unable to understand his responses due to his slurred speech.
Police say Boyd denied consuming alcohol earlier in the evening. He was subsequently asked to participate in a series of field sobriety tests, which police say he did not pass.
Boyd was taken into custody and transported to headquarters, where police say his blood-alcohol level was tested at .2022.
Boyd was charged with operating under the influence and failure to obey a stop sign. He was released after posting a $50 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Nov. 1.
